1HORSEPOWER: HORSE "DAY CAMP" FOR ADULTS
We've had requests for summer day camp for adults
who perhaps didn't get to go to camp when they were children or who want to buy
their first horse and don't know
how to go about buying or caring for a horse. Day camps
are offered the third Friday of the month, July-September, with different
agendas and special bonus features.
Our August 20 session was filled with information on buying a
horse, grooming and tacking your assigned horse, horse care, stall
cleaning, two riding lessons
(full day camp), basic horse training, and
equine studies. Lunch, coffee, tea, water, and snacks were available all day.
As a bonus, Getting Fit to Ride exercise class,
taught by Cathy Solan, was offered in the morning session.
The next camp is Friday, September 17, and will feature two
riding lessons, equine specialists, more equine studies including how
horses learn, among others. Camp is $165
for full day, 9-4, with 3/4 hour for lunch, or $95 for 1/2
day morning or afternoon. Click here to
register for 1HORSEPOWER camp for adults.
GETTING FIT TO RIDE exercise classes, taught by instructor Cathy Solan
Tuesday afternoon classes, taught 4-5 p.m. in our outdoor arena, weather permitting, or
the indoor. You will need
to bring your own mat. Cost is $30 per class. See
Getting Fit to Ride form or contact us for details. In the photo, Cathy
demonstrates exercises at our Horsefest
Clinic April 24.

Horsefest!
APRIL 24, 2010 The half-day sport horse in hand clinic with Liz
Salmon was a great success. Participants brought horses of several breeds to
learn about conformation, how to train and then present their horses on
the triangle. Everyone said they thoroughly enjoyed the clinic and
hope Liz will return next year.
Liz also did very thorough, written
evaluations of horses, which were used to illustrate conformation, with the
owners' permission. The Sale
Horse Barn offered 10 horses--stallions and mares--of several breeds.
Some are listed on our Sales Page; e-mail us for owner contact
information.
WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW This workshop is geared for authors who include a
horse in their stories, but don't know anything about horses. The
session, which is limited to 10 writers, includes introduction to horses
of several breeds, grooming, tack and tacking up, leadline riding, a
comprehensive dictionary of horse terms, gourmet lunch, coffee and
water. A published author will be on hand to talk about the trials and
tribulations of getting your work published. Date is TBD.
